Simple Super Bowl Baked Wings

I’m not much of a Super Bowl watcher. But here’s the thing, I LOVE the Super Bowl. You know why? It means beer, chicken wings, fried foods and back in the day, an afternoon of getting tipsy in a bar. The years that I lived in NYC were especially fun because Americans sure like to party on this day. The last few years we have done the ‘pub at home’ vibe with fried foods and lots of wine. This year we’re heading to my sister’s house and because she isn’t a huge fan of cleaning up oil splatters post frying session, I’m going to bake the wings. With an increase in heat for the last ten minutes or so, those puppies crisp right up and I actually (shockingly) don’t miss the fried version. I’m using store bought sauces and garlic powders vs. real garlic in here for super simplicity. I’m feeling lazy, you dig?

Happy game day!

1) First, pat down the wings with paper towel.

2) Sprinkle dry rub all over wings and/or get in there and massage sensually, depending on your desire for saltiness. These can be intensely salty so if you’re concerned about middle-of-the-night water gulping, just sprinkle with caution. There should be dry rub left over.

3) Bake at 375 F for 45-55 minutes (depending on your oven’s heat abilities). Flip half way through cook time and watch them to make sure they don’t burn.

4) Towards the end of cook time, turn the heat up to 400 F and allow the top to crisp up.

5) After they have cooled a bit, toss in sauce and serve.

Dry rub:

– 1/2 cup of salt

– 2 tablespoons of pepper

– 2 tablespoons of garlic power

– a splash of cayenne if you want some heat

Sauce:

– Your favourite store bought sauce (Diane’s Gourmet Chicken and Rib)

– 3 dollips of ketchup

– Mix in a little Frank’s buffalo wing sauce (this is only if you want heat)

These wings are actually quite delicious without sauce at all. The dry rub is nice and salty and creates a crispy, yummy ass wing.

Enjoy!
